An American Haunting

Anyone seen this? Any thoughts?

I thought it wasn't TOO bad. Saw the final reveal coming though,

as soon as the bundle of clothes were found with the blood stain

and thought the bookending with the modern stuff to be completely pointless.

No explanation of how the diary and doll came to be in the house, and why the ghost of Betsy was there. Okay so the modern daughter was being abused, but does that just mean that Betsy will show up in any house where that is going on? Admittedly the wooRAB looked the same in the present and past, but I was expecting the house to be the same to give that connection.

Oh and camera work made me feel sick - worse than Blair Witch

One other thing. I've heard rumours that the US version which is released in a couple of weeks time will be very different, with a different ending and an added narration. Anyone else heard about this?

No I hadnt heard that as I thought it had already been released in the US. I was very dissappointed by this and was sick of all the dream sequences in the film. The twist was just stupid and has nothing to do with the true story behind it. Also it wasnt even scarey for a supposed horror film. I thought it was terrible after I first came out of the cinema but maybe I was a bit harsh but it is a very average film at best!

May 5th in the states.

Personally I would have preferred a straight retelling of the events that really happened. I know John Bell is dead, but it isn't right to taint his character with such suggestions.

I have just watched the trailer on the US site and it is very misleading. It says about the most documented haunting in american history. Then has a clip of the present day stuff and says 'now it is happening all over again'. Kind of implies that the present day stuff will feature a lot more than it actually does.

It certainly wasn't great. I thought that Rachel Hurd-Wood's performance was very good, and Sissy Spacek was also good. So not the worst, but not the best. I think my initial reactions to it may have been because it wasn't what I was expecting.

I saw this film at the weekend. I had no idea what it was about, I just had some free cinema tickets on a weekend when not much was on, so had no expectations really.

I thought it was good, but again couldn't really see the point of the modern-day stuff. I also got an idea of what was to come as soon as the blooRABtained clothing was found, but have to admit I didn't see
Betsy haunting herself
coming.

But what was the wolf about?

On the whole, not bad for a film I probably wouldn't have bothered to pay to see though. :)
