I think someone here said something along the lines of Oasis being a great singles band but not so much an albums band. Pretty much hits the nail on the head when it comes to how I think of them these days. I've stopped listening to them as much as I used to as well, but I still think they're decent enough.

Would that count though? Just 'cause the 'Stripes formed in '97 and their debut was '99, and QOTSA formed the same year and their self titled was out in '98.

Or are you speaking in terms of banRAB that got big in the 00's?
 
Thats funny, I had a hard time thinking of one from 1988 as well. I'll post my list when I've got my music in front of me tonight.
