An Actually Serious Observation

What's there to be bitter about? It's almost the turn of a new millennium and things are looking up for animation. If there's bitterness, I sure don't see it.
 
I don't know if I'd call it bitterness or not, but it most certainly puts things into perspective. I mean, we all complained about SO much back in the late 90s and early 2000s either here or on other boards about things that we were lucky even existed or were on the air in the first place. I honestly haven't decided if I want to laugh at the theme here today, or go find a dark corner somewhere and start sobbing in the fetal position. I started the day finding it very funny, but now I'm beginning to find it depressing.
 
AFD, I meant to type. April Fools Day.

I'm getting more and more depressed with the theme myself, actually. There's a lot of graveyard humor on the descriptions, perhaps even black humor. 2009 has been a pessimistic here for animation in general so it doesn't surprise me that TZ would utilize dark humor for AFD this year.
 
One thing is certain, I personally felt that Toon Zone went a little over the top with April Fool's Day last year (e.g., having the retro board renamed the I Love Lucy board or something). For that reason, I didn't visit the forums all day yesterday. I wanted to make sure everything was over and done with before coming back.

In any case, some things weren't funny, like live-action on Boomerang; personally, I'm hoping that DOESN'T happen (but that of course is for another topic), or the return of Toonami. Others were corny, like the "VHS forum".

However, instead of getting depressed, I keep hoping that things will get better, and that certain corporate entities will get over themselves, and realize just how significant their animated legacies really are. Perhaps by then, AFD's here won't be as dark as they were this year.
