Amsoil experience

I have always have a bad filling about amsoil, after reading all of the 20 pages I will newer use that oil in my engines,I'll stick with M1, worked great for me for the past 10 years.

The engine noise in my bike was getting worse real fast (sounded like major lifter noise at the top rpm range in each gear) so yesterday I replaced the amsoil with HD dino oil as well as the HD filter.

Within a couple of miles the engine was quieter. Even my wife noticed the difference.
We put on 300 miles today and engine is still quiet (compared to what it was).

I'm not knocking any product but my bike did not like amsoil, that's all.

This tread has me thinking.....which always hurts.

I've always had good luck with syn oils in vehicles but tried them for the first time in my 2010 SG at 4000 miles.

I Went with Mobil 1 VT 20-50 in the crank case and noticed immediately that valve train noise was quieter up to 3000 rpm, after that, much louder. Since I often shift in the middle of the torque curve (3500 rpm), I cringe when I hear all the rattle.

At 4200 miles I changed the tranny oil with the VT Redline with the supposed "shock proof" for all the great smoothness it had to offer. BS IMO. No difference, For me in many respects it's worse after a few hundred miles and especially when it gets hot. But it looks cool (peto bismol).

At 4500 miles I put in the redline primary oil for all the same reasons. Made sure my clutch is adjusted correctly and once again... no difference from the HD option.

After my experience I'm going away from the "high priced spread" and changing back to the convenional HD oil and change it often.

We all want to do the best for our investgestment, I've just not seen the justification for the additional $$$.

Over thirty years using synthetics, building my own drivetrains, and seeing first hand the results, will never convert back to dino oil it makes no sense.Besides the savings on longer drain intervals alone (approx $100.00 per vehicle per year)is a real plus.To each his/her own.

That Mobil1 15/50 is getting harder and harder to find. Somebody posted yesterday (for whatever that's worth) that the gallon jugs were produced just for walmart and are not going to be produced anymore.

Jeez, I'd better get over and buy a few if that's so. The Mobil tech I talked to last week didn't say anything about them discontinuing it. He recommended to use it.

My local Walmart Superstore doesn't carry the 5qt jug of M1 15-50 anymore. They had several jugs of M1 but not 15-50, so last week, I asked them to give me the same price for 5 x 1qt bottles ($21) and they refused. So I bought only 4qts. Cheaper than M1 V-Twin, Amsoil or Redline and an excellent synthetic oil too.

I drained the Amsoil from my bike and went with Mobil1 in the engine. Bike is much quieter now. I put Redline in the tranny and it shifts much smoother and neutral is MUCH easier to find.
