here is what I have.. Titan stock deck. Line out converter from running off of rear speakers. Alpine mrp m1000, which runs 1000rms 2ohms. I have a type r 12inch, which is 500rms. The wiring to the dvc's is correct. My amp is wired with 4 awg wire just as specified in the amp manual and ground is good. My amp still gets gets hott. Amp is set at 75 hz and gain is up. The box is a qlogic 1.25 ported. The sub also just turns off sometimes and then turns back on, even when the amp isn't hot. Can it be the lineout converter? Also my amp has a speaker out put on it instead of the RCA hookup. Would that be better to use? I also just bought a 1 farad cap but haven't installed it yet.

Amps get hot, it's a result of pushing that much power.

You said the gain was up so you may want to adjust the gain correctly...

The purpose of the gain is to match the signal volts RMS coming from the source (CD player, etc.) to the input of the amp to prevent clipping (damage by over powering).

Here is a guide that will help you set the gain correctly http://www.box.net/shared/uchv4dbk88

You'll need a multi-meter (AC voltmeter, $15 from Radio$hack), Microsoft Excel and a way to burn an audio CD from an MP3.

If you don't have Excel, use this link http://www.box.net/shared/nkkw1dhk4g
