Ammonia smell

I need your help...
For over a year now I have had a smell of ammonia on my underwear!
It just started one day...somedays it is only a slight smell and some days it is very powerful. I wear day pads to keep the embarrassing smell it myself.

I have been to my doctor and a specialist...nothing, I have no STD's no BV No nothing...i did get diagnosed with a under active thyriod and a bad gall bladder but one is now removed and the other issue is under control.

My doctor has pretty much told me that i needed to stop worring about it and just deal with this issue. The specialist told me that I need to take baths more...I was never so embarrassed in all my life. So i did anyway...and that didnt work neither.

One thing that I did find was I had to take a antbiotic for a cut gum by the dentist...and the smell went away for a week, and when I stopped using the meds it came back. Yes i told my doctor this but...we did all the tests.

I am not itchy or anything...it just smells liek ammonia. It is not my virgina...i have normal discharge coming out of there and it doesnt smell at all.

I dont have a boyfriend so it isnt sex related...

I just dont know what to do or where to go now...I know someone out there has this issue as well...i cant be the only one...Help

just what type of 'specialists' have you seen so far? what creates ammonia in us is the breakdown of protien, this is a liver function. have they checked your liver and kidney functions at all during the time you have been dealing with this just to see if everything is okay function wise? certain issues within the kidneys as far as filtration and other possible issues within the liver could be responsible for the stronger than norm ammonia smell. it wouldn;t hurt either if they have not yet done so,to run an ammonia level on you too. too much ammonia in the blood can cause brain issues. just some things that need to be checked upon and ruled out or in as being responsible for what you are experiencing. i would see your doc an ask about these tests or what he or she thinks about at least testing this stuff. you just cannot actually rule anything out til it gets tested, you know what i mean? please keep me posted as to what youfind out,K? Vinegar does neutralize ammonia. This solves the symptoms, it does not solve the cause of having too much ammonia in the urine.

It would be a good idea to see a urologist and find out what the real problem is.

Neutralizing ammonia may mask a serious problem that needs to be addressed.

I think I will try and see another doctor. My doctor just dismissed me like it was because I gained 15 pounds. They did all vaginal testing and checked my Ammonia levels, which she said was fine.
I will definately get back to you with what this issue is. I have seen posts on other sites that talk about this same issue but they never come back and fill us in on what it was or what caused it.

I've heard of this associated with a diet high in oxalates.

Chocolate, coffee and teas, berries, currants, kiwifruit, grapes, figs, tangerines and plums, almonds, cashews, and peanuts. Any kind of soy product. Wheat germ or bran.

Anything green and leafy:
Spinach, chard, beet greens, rhubarb, asparagus, collards, okra, parsley, leeks and celery.

(A low oxalate diet is recommended for kidney stones and vulvodynia.)

The only thing that I have everyday on that list is tea...

But recently I started taking Apple Cider Vinegar...and the smell is gone??? I dont understand.

I have gone days with hardly any food..low fat, high fat...no matter what it is there...until now. But we will see if it comes back, so far it has been 3 days.

So I will be bringing that to my doctor.

:)

Thank you for replies ...

I drink water like a fish. Still I have a problem. I don't have health insurance to visit the uronologist but until I get some I'm going to vist the obgyn and let them know this problem is still here.

Hi,

I still have the ammonia smell. I have done everything, checked for every disease and I have a clean bill of health. I went to a Urologist and they check my bladder and i all is healthy. I am trying to live with it. I just wear a thin pad everyday. Apple Cider pills still helps.
Let me know if anyone ever finds out what it is or how it sure it :-)
