Americans.. why do you confine to your own sports?

I see what you're saying, but maybe what you're not realizing is that we play internationally with baseball, basketball, football(american football), and hockey.
Canada and the US share that same league for baseball, basketball and hockey, and play each other throughout the seasons. Then we do all sorts of exibition games for baseball with a few Asian countries as well as American territory nations (like peurto rico, somoa, and so on), mostly Japan though, and occasionally in the Dominican Republic.

I don't know why we never really got into soccer, or what you guys call football, it just never gained enough national attention. It's gotten more popular in recent years, but not nearly to the level in most other countries. Rugby..... not much different than Amercan football, same concept really, so that's why rugby never really got popular here.

Why is it that America doesn't participate (to the best of their ability) internationally recognised sports?

I mean... lets face it... Americans by standard are a pretty arrogant bunch.. which is fair enough they do live in the most important country in the world.. and I know its easy to say "we know we're the best we don't need to play your sports" blah blah... Wouldn't you love to kickass on a global scale?

But seriously! If you guys bothered to put the same amount of effort in to the likes of Rugby, Football, Netball, League etc. that you do in Baseball and NFL.. Damn you guys would dominate!

I'm from New Zealand... famous for our rugby team the All Blacks =]. Number 1 in the world... but if you guys bothered to put some effort in that area we'd get decked! I mean, to be some what racist for a minute here... look at the big black guys you've got running around. Size, Speed, Strength... train 15 of those badasses up and put them on the field... total annihilation!

no interest.........u grow up watching the NFL and MLB and idolize those guys. so we play those sports. and the sports you mention are not offered in school. by the time we are adults, we have already excelled in the sports we grew up playing. it would take much to implement these sports. the money alone would pale in comparison to what they would make playing football or baseball.

It's a matter of perspective. We could say the same about other nations. Why don't other nations try American Football? How do you know you don't like it until you try it. I saw a rugby match when I visited New Zealand, you have a wonderful country by the way, and I fell in love with rugby. But not everyone feels the same.

There is a saying, "All politics is local" which means people only care about what happens in their locality. The same can be said about sports. With Canadians, and Americans who live in the northern US, Hockey is popular.

I've played both soccer and American football. I enjoyed American football much more. It's a more physical and aggressive game. There's more strategy involved as well. Granted it doesn't take as much cardiovascular endurance as soccer, but it does require more strength, explosive speed and durability. Most of the guys who play American football are much larger than your typical soccer players.

As for kicking ass on a global scale, we do pretty well in the olympics.
