Americans (Not generalized, just tourists!)

When I lived in Europe for 2 years it never ceased to make me cringe to hear Americans say "How much is that in Real Money?" Like the US dollar is the only real money. What inbred fucking losers.
 
I am so thankful for the Euro. It made my travels so much more... easy. Plus, it destroyed what little grip I had on the English language. Me go post this now.
 
w00t. Someone picked up on my error that made it look like I called America a European country, however if I did I would have just said Europe. If I didn't know where America was then I probably would be wondering why there's so many American customers ;)

I haven't had anyone pay in Euros yet, but if anyone does I'm going to keep it and just replace the cost iwht my own money... Someone got a dollar bill the other day (canadian) ...

--About the "Real Money" ... The guy who said "How much is that in real money" had to read a book on exchange rates when he was ordering because he didn't believe me that American is worth more ...

Aaaaand I didn't have any customers today because I was working in the back making pizza/cutting dough (I think I was going to post something else there but I forget what so I just posted that... I know its useless, but you can deal, right?)

OOh. I remembered now. I hate the backspace.
I've never been to Europe but I hope to go with my school next year for the Europe trip... this year's sucked and didn't even go to Germany (Which I'd love to go to) or Switzerland or anywhere... Only Rome and Greece and places like that :P
 
Rome was absolutly amazing. I spent a month and a half there, and cried when I had to leave. Absoluetly amazing (if your into that classical kinda stuff, which i am).
 
There are far to many posts for me to read all of them, but I have some stuff to add.

1) It absolutely sucks that most American tourists and sadly americans in general give that impression to the rest of the world. It's seems most countries believe we are arrogant, loud, obnoxious, uncultured, and self absorbed. Sadly not many have done much to prove otherwise.

2) If you KNOW you work in a high tourist area, why don't you simply ask what type of currency they will be paying with before hand? Would save you both a headache, and you wouldn't get accused of anything byt he americans.

3) Have some slight patience, like any job working with people you are gonna meet 1 great person, 8 normals, and 1 jackass out of every 10 people. Unfortunately America is still in its infancy culture wise and the school system and media teach people that we are THE superpower and that gets kind of ground into from day 1. the culture will evolve over time I'm sure, but I assure not every american is that way. Usually just the ones 30+. This generation seems alot more aware.

4) This is just more of a gripe/observation. America is a melting of all cultures. America tries to cater to all immigrants. Period. They get better health care than citizens, free money, help with housing. From an american stand point I think that people think other countries should bend to help us and make us comfortable in the same way. Perhaps they are slightly resentful of all the help and catering given to all the cultures in the country and dont understand it when it isn't given back out of the country.

The only thing I can promise you is that there will always be idiots, always be assholes, and that the only thing to get you through it will be patients and understanding. Good luck, americas culture is still young, and a large majority arent taught about the rest of the world. @ 16 I'd hope you wouldn't start developing a prejudice already ;p
 
It would be a lot harder to ask what kind of currency, as there's so few Americans (1/50 or so) and out of those Americans 1/5 pay in American money... Its faster to just take the money, if it is American then I switch it over to American... Hopefully I won't have to do till for a while... I prep pizzas better than I serve customers ;)

And yes, I've already got the hang of idiots and assholes... Just act calm and they don't know what to do except for leave ;) I know not ALL Americans are idiots and assholes, I know quite a few (which is why I didn't generalize it in my topic title...) Ehh, I can deal with it, just if you're American and coming to Canada, Get your money converted before you buy anything... It'll help some poor guy out... And don't forget about that 15% taxation ;)

on a different note, have u ever been to disny world?

for one the place is overrun buy tourist and they all stick in huge groups wearing the same coulor shirt. when i whent htere when i was 11 i was almost trampled 2 times bye a bunch of italins and some spics(note im not a racist but these people need it) also my mom was hit on in spanish by some guys waiting in line. well my dad is around 6.5 300pounds then and well my mom new spanish, lets say we got kicked out of disny land. worth it though
 
i think it's absolutely ridiculous of americans to behave in the way you describe, boycott. you're dead right about "real money." real money is the currency backed and guaranteed by the government which has jurisdiction over the place where the money is being spent. i live in a county in california where the sales tax is higher than it is in adjacent counties. people never bitch either way around here.

also, americans tend to think their everything is the only everything in the universe. as a near-border canadian, i'm sure you understand that statement perfectly. just realize this american deeply sympathizes with you.

nobody has the right to bitch about the sales tax. if you don't like it, don't buy anything. that's how a sale works.

were i visiting, i would probably ask, "do you take USD?" or "do you take american currency?" but even that is asking a shop to offer a serious courtesy. now that i think about it i would probably convert my cash currency ahead of time out of respect for my destination, and i would write checks with "cdn" on them. yes, banks can provide that service.

and about the less-pricey-looking-when-using-USD thing, remember americans and math don't typically mix. especially not stupid american tourists.
