Do Americans realise Europe is a big place? When you see them refering to it in a Movie or TV programme they very rarely sepcify what European country they are going on about. Its REALLY annoying.

The reason I post this is because my Ocotober issue of Empire dropped through my letter box this morning and I was reading about Hostel, the new Eli Roth (Cabin Fever) movie. And here is a quote from it:

WHAT SMALL EUROPEAN TOWN, SPECIFIY IT PLEASE. I mean come on, how many countries are there in Europe?

45 countries actually, just checked

its typical american arrogence. they think that america takes up half the world and that all other countries (or even continents) are the size of england.

This is actually a plot in a lot of American movies!

They don't mention what State the movie the is set in, do they?

There are 50 States in the US, the last time I checked! ;)

A lot of them don't even realise that we are part of Europe. When they say Europe they actually mean continental Europe.
