Huh, I was thinking it would be mid-Summer (june/july). But I guess it's a good way to end summer vacation for those going back to school in Aug.

Since my town has gotten in on that "select theater" action, I'm sure they'll have this one as well which I'll naturally go see.

I heard it was supposed to be 750 theaters, essentially on par with the "wide" post-Oscar release of Spirited Away.

I hope the Cyrus/Jonas connection helps it make more money than other Miyazaki movies. If not, there's no reason. Ah well, it'll probably be shown subbed in a few theaters as well if the dub's that annoying.

They'll probably release it in only a few theaters at a time. I bet the most theaters it'll have in one week will be around 150. But over its entire run it'll probably open once in nearly every part of the U.S. So I'm guessing the total nuraber of theaters that run "Ponyo" at least once will be 750.

I hope they do get that nuraber. I'm worried that "Ponyo" being a "little kid's movie" will be at a disadvantage.

Well, darn. I was hoping for an early summer release. Oh well - now I just need to wait for a theatre listing. Hopefully it'll get a screening nearby... but, so help me God, I'll hitchhike to New York to see Ponyo on the big screen if I have to.

I cant wait to go see this film.

im lucky, theres 3 theatres in my area that have held limited release films before, so with luck, one of the three will be where i'll see ponyo.

Nah.

Frankie haven't done anything remotely to acting unless you count him in being in that live-action short series with the Jonas Bros on tour that was on Disney Channel during the release of Camp Rock. The last film Noah was in was R.L Stine's Mostly Ghostly and I don't think that did well in terms of DVD sales and TV ratings so I'm guessing that while the film will get some nice amount of dough from Miyazaki fans. Anyone else seeing the film could care less about these two unpopular, let alone, unheard of sibilings of the Jonas Bros. and Miley Cyrus.

They can't. Even I can't ignore something that's big like this. Having someone related to Miley/Jonas Bros in a film destined to become a masterpiece in the U.S. will get a lot of criticism from anyone who are big haters of their older siblings.

I'll still see 'Ponyo' but I wished that Disney had thought about getting some other talented kiRAB who 1) don't have any relation to any Disney stars of today since the company, for later Miyazaki dubs need new blood and 2) like last year's Bolt with the casting of Miley Cyrus as Penny, Frankie and Noah's name recognition will not mean that the film will make a lot of money in the box office even if the film's in limited release ala Spirited Away but it will deem a spot in the Academy AwarRAB for the next year.

Actually, ANY of the Miyazaki dubs have been criticized from those who have hated any particular actor/actress beforehand; e.g. Dakota Fanning and Elle Fanning in Totoro, Claire Danes in Mononoke, etc.--which is sad, because I haven't had a problem with any of the dubs; even the actors who people claim spoil the films turned in good to excellent performances.

I really can't stand this animosity against certain actors--to me it is detrimental to my entertainment value as a Ghibli fan; after all, Miyazaki himself has had no problems with the dubs at all.

I, for one, certainly hope it does NOT. Spirited Away only ran in a couple hundred theaters at once--until it won the Academy Award. Only then was it distributed (with a pretty good promotional campaign) into over 700 theaters. I'd like to think it will start on at least that many screens--hopefully, maybe double that.
