I'm in an honors level english American Literature class and we have to read three books by an author and then write a ten page report on the author themselves. Can anyone come up with a list of authors I may be able to do for my American Literature project that would be very impressive. (Ex. Ernest Hemingway)

Please, nothing like Jodi Piccoult...
And they must be American Authors, which crosses out Charles Dickens etc.

thankyou :]

It's just really sad to me that modern authors' work isn't considered literature because it wasn't written 50 years ago. Even writers like Ken Kesey (One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest) isn't considered a literary author. Only Hemingway and Steinbeck get that honor and I don't like it. There are some really great authors out there. I also ask myself who this "group" is that decides what qualifies at literature and what does not. I mean, who are they that set these "rules" in place? I just wonder...but that's not answering your question.

Um, since apparently literature never changes ( because new authors can't get in), it's just the same authors as usual. John Steinbeck, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Harper Lee- the usual crew. Even MAry Shelley's work (Frankenstein) isn't considered literature, but oh well. Sorry for my rant. It just bothers me a bit.
