I made the same transition, from London to Texas. Well, it depends on what state and school district you choose. Here was mine:
The Texas Education system requires you to have 4 years of English, 3 Years of Math, 3 years of Science, 2 Years of Foreign language, 1 year of P.E. and a few other requirements. Such as History(Social Studies)
10th Grade (commonly known as Sophmore year) will enroll you into:
Sophmore English (Books, short stories, poems, etc.), Sophmore Math (Geometry), Sophmore History (World History, Renaissance), Sophmore Science Biology), In this year you can take P.E, or Language as an elective. More electives are available according to schools.
11th Grade (commonly known as Junior year) will enroll you into:
Junior English (Antigone, Julius Caesar, Preparation for State Test, known as TAKS in Texas), Junior History (U.S History (World Wars covered, preparation towards State Test), Junior Math (Algebra 2, preparation for State Test), Junior Science (Chemistry, preparaiton for state test), You must start your 1st year of Language if you haven't already. Should complete your P.E. credit.
12th Grade (commonly know as Senior Year) will enroll you into:
Senior English (Macbeth, Frankenstien, Poems, Essays etc.) Senior History (Government and Ecenomics), Senior Math is an elective, known as Pre-cal or Calculus. Senior Science is an elective, wide range of subjects to choose from: Physics etc. Complete your Language credit if you haven't already done so. Pass state tests to graduate. Few other options depend on state.
Make sure your GPA (Grade Point Average) is over 3.0. Try to take Advancedplacement classes, AP, or International Baccalaurete courses, IB. These to are hard clasees. You may have to take Pre Ap/IB classes in order to get into these classes. AP/IB classes are weighed different for GPA averages. IB courses are not available in all schools. Only special schools have these courses.Take SAT/ACT to get into Universities. If you have more questions, e-mail me.
