I've known people that visited from Europe. They've usually commented something on the order of "For the supposedly most free country in the world, the US sure does have a lot of rules and laws that limit what you can do"
Too many laws -- we're being stifled and buried under mountains of code that are too comlex to be useful.
It may have something to do with the fact that there are more lawyers currently in law school then there are lawyers in practice, and that the trend has been occurring for many years now.
