American Dad - "White Rice" - Talkback [11/21]

Although Stan's treatment of Francine seemed a bit extreme (especially considering how long he's been doing it, would he really care about all the other problems they've had if he could just have someone repress her memories?), I did like where the episode went. Plus, Klaus actually murdered his wife, which is worse. Wait, did any of his children survive to the end of the episode?

I was expecting the same thing.

The difference between those characters and Peter is that Peter's behavior never has the intent of causing pain to others. Unlike Cartman and Bender who usuallly go out of there way to put others lives in danger because they either want them gone or simply for pleasure.

The episode was alright, its about time Francine gets some focus. Stan's method of keeping her in his life seems pretty shady, but certainly not out of character considering how he took his family on vacation using a sleep chamber.

Stan being a control freak and a perfectionist towards his family isn't anything new, and isn't out o fcharacter for him. While he can be jerk most of time, Stan is more of a well-intentioned extremist who tries to do what's best for his family and his country. For example,he prented to be in poverty and left his family just so the family could get a better car deal. He went about doing this the wrong away, but you get what he was trying to do. Also, I think the one of the reasons why he is such a hard*** towards his family is because of Jack Smith (his father) leaving him and his mom when he was a kid. His father's abandonment really had an affect on his life (Odepial Panties). Compared to Peter, I see him as a better father since he cares about his kids and wants to see them be successful. Current Peter doesn't really care too much about his Chris (and Meg) due to his "mental attitude", whereas Stan does. Even though he's done many cruel things, Stan has gotten better over the seasons so he's not a complete monster.

About last night's episode. It was allright. I didn't laugh too much at the asian jokes, but I did lol when hypnotist sold Stan out since he didn't get the guy a sandwich for
20 years. :p Stan repressing Francine's memories reminded me of Francine's Flashback when Stan accidentally erased the last twenty years of her life.

That's true, but from my POV in the audience it's for frustrating because, regardless of intent, there's rarely any payoff for Peter's behavior. He does something mean/stupid, doesn't understand why it's wrong, and only ever seems to come to regret it if it's against Lois (and even then not fully). And the writers usually make it out as if you're not supposed to laugh AT him, but WITH him AT his victims. It feels like they're taking the side of the bully who doesn't understand how much his actions hurt. That's not the case for Stan, Roger, Bender, Cartman, etc.

You know, I realized something. Before they found out the show was canceled, Stan said he couldn't wait to tell the kids that they were moving to California. So, either that was a dialogue error, or Hayley has moved back and hasn't been seen since the season premiere.

It seems like Stan is always doing something horrible to Francine. That sitcom White Rice looked awful. The Klaus plot about getting a wife was the best part of the episode.

Actually, in the production order, this is episode 15 of season 5. So this episode may have been produced before Hayley was temporarily written out, and then aired out of order by *sigh*,\ Fox. Again.
