American Dad - "Bar Mitzvah Shuffle" - Talkback [3/22]

Nice use of the "Green Onions" piece it went well with the plot and everything. Very good episode too I liked it when Toshi mentioned how he knew about Roger.

It was as good, if not better, than the last Steve-centered episode where Stan says, "it was nice that Steve acknowledged us this week." lol.

Basically this show is about Stan, Steve and Roger like FG is about Peter, Brian and Stewie, respectively. Everyone else gets their little spotlight on occasion, but usually they just react to the others or have some weird abstract joke.

I don't often say this nowadays, but Family Guy was funnier than AD last night. It had a good plot, as usual, but nothing had me on the floor. Though I did laugh at Stan's aborted catchphrase: "Nuh-uh to your yuh-huh", including Klaus with a T-shirt of it. Stan laughing just from explaining the premise of Two and a Half Men made me chuckle, too ("A guy has sex with whores and then has breakfast with a fat kid!").

I still have to watch this episode, so I don't know what happens yet. But I do like Debbie being around. Aside from having a likable personality (from what little she's appeared, she hasn't annoyed me yet), it's nice to see a stereotypical geek like Steve get himself a girl, both whom genuinely love each other. That's pretty much a step above what most geeks in the media get.

It's not much of a genuine love since she dumped him for a jerk like Aton. She's pretty superficial herself. Not to mention the episode didn't really even clarify what the status of Steve and Debbie was at the end.

This episode seemed to symbolize lazy writing. They start a subplot with Stan that just gets thrown out after like the second scene for a lame breaking the fourth wall joke. Part of Steve's whole motivation was winning back Debbie, and they wouldn't even say if that actually happened or not.

Parker and Stone are right about these writers. They do it as a job to get by not because they truly love comedy or believe in the art.
