I'm new to America. But many time I've witnessed that American people give promises just for the sake of promises. My teacher sometimes offered to ask/ do something for me but she turned out later not to; a friend told his friend " See you tonight" but never came; another friend said to another " Can you call me if you're not going? Otherwise, I'll be waiting", and he ended up waited 1 and a half hour and still didn't hear anything from his friend.....
