We all know how most anime usally have well put together and sometime elaborate pieces of background music. What American animated shows have music that you like and wouldn't mind possibly seeing on a soundtrack?
Well, BTAS definitely, but I'd also like to see some of the Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Lab music out THAT WAS ACTUALLY ON THE SHOW. I wasn't happy with the cds they released where people sang about the characters.
The DCAU, Spongebob Squarepants, W.I.T.C.H., and the Venture Bros. soundtracks would be nice to have. X-Men Evolution as well, though some of its music is already floating around, but a full release would be nice,
Tiny Toons and Animaniacs had great BGM, featuring great tunes and large orchestras.
Ducktales had some great music too, thought like most of Disney's shows it used a music library where a bunch of themes were recorded and then used throughout the series' run.
Christopher Tyng's music on Futurama was/is fantastic.
No mention of Samurai Jack yet, either, or the show's music by James L. Venable. Sometimes when I play "Episode I" on my DVD player, I turn the TV set off and turn on my stereo, just to hear the music score.
Maybe someday they'll release an ST of the music. We can only hope...
Hate me all you want--The Beverly Hills Teens, C.O.P.S. and The Real Ghostbusters had fantastic soundtracks as did some of the Filmation shows as well. Ditto for the early 70's Hanna Barbera shows, as well as the late 70's The CB Bears.
Probably the greatest cartoon soundtracks ever, in my opinion, would have to go to the WB shows of the 90's: Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Taz-Mania, Freakazoid, etc. Can't get much more classic than that.
I find it odd that practically every anime series gets a soundtrack released in Japan (I'm serious, you have to look pretty hard for a series that doesn't get one), yet in the U.S., soundtracks are hardly ever released for cartoons...and if they are, they usually don't have the actual score of the show. How unusual...
That's true. Even some of the early black & white anime works of TMS has soundtrack CDs of some kind, and those shows haven't been shown to public ever since television officially switched to color. (the opening and closing sequences did get released though, when TMS released a laserdisc that compiled all the openings for their early shows)
Market, usually. I doubt it would sell here. Also, Japan has to earn back the production cost usually since they don't have much budget when it comes to cartoons, so selling soundtracks works well for that. Here, I doubt companies need to make money back for shows since they can rerun them whenever they want and keep getting money through advertisers.
