AMBER ALERTS: why cant they...

I received a text message from my freind about an amber alert and I was thinking why can't cell phone carriers join up with the amber alert system and send messages to cell phone users alerting what is going on. Don't you think that's a good idea? I'm tempted to call up some carriers and see if they could.

That's a great idea it make people more aware of what's going on and a better chance to help find the missing child. They pretty much have it everywhere else so why not. The one problem I could see arising from this would be:does the carrier charge you for the text or is it a free one like they send every once in a while? Let us know what they say. ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

if they ever did this, they'd have to be free. i don't have a text plan. and personally, while i'm not pro-abduction or anything, i wouldn't want these forced on me. it would have to be an opt-in plan.

well FCC has approved alerts sent via sms, for state of emegencies, etc...so we may see some changes. this ould cover incidents that has happened at virginia tech, and weather situations with hurricanes, tornadoes, etc....and i wouldn't be surprsed if they included amber alerts in there as well
