I started this book called "Adeline" Which is about a detective that kills her step sister out of self defense but keeps it a secret her whole life because she thinks that (because she really did hate her) she is a murderer.(Even tough,like I said,it was out of self-defense.)
Adeline begins to work on a series of murders with her old college boyfriend Robert and her new friend Ellen.They discover a pattern in the murders and find a booklet of the crime scenes that has a unique code that leads them to the next murder to come.Without realising it'a trap,Adeline and Ellen go to the place they thing the next murder will be but end up being kidnapped.
Adeline waked up in a room completely unable to move.Ellen is gone,and she has no idea where she is.As soon as she thinks she's going to die,a figure come out of the shadows and tells Adeline that he has been committing all the murders and that he knows Adeline's secret.He says that in order to avenge Adeline's sister,(his girlfriend) he is going to keep on committing murders and blackmailing Adeline until she snaps.
Adeline agrees and wakes up in her office,Ellen has no memory of what happens but Adeline does.She keeps quiet until she can hardly take anymore,she becomes insane.
Then the murder kidnaps Robert and Ellen and tells Adeline to choose them or her secret.
In the end Adeline literally takes a bullet for them and almost dies.She confesses her crime to Ellen and Robert.
