Am I the only person here that has never watched Harry Potter nor read the books?

I don't know why I'm so against anything to do with Harry Potter, but I literally cringe as soon as I hear that there is yet another new book or movie. :o:eek:

I think I must be just one of these kind of people who rebels against anything that I'm told I must do.

I.e......I just must watch Harry Potter and I just must read the bleedin books.

Well sorry, but there is just not one thing about the back covers or the synopsis that interests me in the least.

Am I alone it the world of not being remotely interested in even giving it a try?

Oh....and something about the author annoys me too....but I can't quite put my finger on it apart from the fact that she's changed from being an author to a fully fledged factory almost overnight :rolleyes::p;)
 
I haven't read the books and no I also haven't watched any of the movies.

I think of the Harry Potter world as a children's one, they were written as children's books and I believe for children they should remain.

I understand that some parents watch with their children and indeed read to their children, that's fine and to be encouraged and commended.

I myself have no children and as a single person so to speak have no interest in their world.

I found it strange that when a new Potter movie came out or on the days when the books were released that so many single people and some of advancing age would line up often in costume.
 
I have neither read a book or seen a movie or done anything otherwise regarding to do with harry potter.

It would seem the studios are determined to squeeze every pound from the franchise as the last book is to be made into 2 films in order to fit everything in.

Looks like the author may want to change her name to J.K. rowling in it.
 
I'm happy for J K Rowling with all the success she's had but I'm just not the type of person to jump on any bandwagon, I have no interest whatsoever in her books or films (I saw a five minute snippet of one of the films) so I'll probably go to the grave never having experienced the delights of trudging through a volume of work working out the family tree's of Dumbledore or all the other characters with magical names. The thought just puts me to sleep. :sleep:
 
Nah I haven't read the books or seen the movies. Just doesn't appeal to me, from the clips I've seen and what I've heard. Each to his own tho.
 
I was very cynical of the whole thing and after watching the first two films not all that impressed either. They just seemed to start and stop with little meaning or proper story telling. However, I was bored one weekend and decided to start reading the books to see if they were as good, or bad, as everyone was saying. I'm perfectly happy to publicly admit I was entirely wrong. They are that rare combination of being superbly written and thumping page turners. If anything, the films don't do them justice.

Read them, don't read them, it's a free world more or less, but in my opinion it's your loss, not your gain, by ignoring them. They are works of great artistic fiction and a pleasure to read. The films are reasonable stabs, and once you've read the books actually become more palatable as you know the underlying thrust of them all. If you're not into fantasy, more a Coronation Street than a Star Trek type then maybe you should steer clear. Otherwise they're a rare treat to be savoured and relished.

I have TRIED to read the books but never managed to finish one - I just couldn't get interested and kept losing concentration, so in the end I gave up.

It was the same with the film I attempted to watch - I switched it off half-way through.
 
Another one here. They are childrens books and there is something very sad about all the adults who read them or watch the movies.
 
I avoided both until 2005. I had the impression that Harry Potter was really a kiRAB series of Books like say the Famous Five and tbh, until book four it is really. Someone leant me the entire first five books when bored that summer and I was hooked after forcing myself to read the first four.

Only the Da Vinchi Code and Irvine Welsh's books have engrossed me as much in the last 10 years so if you have not tried them yet, I would recommend reading them. The films are pretty dire IMO but the books are ace.
 
I have all the adult versions of the books.
I have never read them,my wife has read all seven books.
I have five films at the moment on dvd and i have the films on HD-DVD as well.To be honest i prefer the films to star wars.Which i also have on dvd.
 
I've not read any of the book, but I have seen the first film. Had to watch it with my young neices, lol.

My Dad has read the first book, and he said that if he had read it when he was 8 years old he would have loved it.
 
i am not this is jiust turning into DOnt read em well so what? it not a petition, no one really saying why sao it pointless *sighs* but each to their own:D:D:D


the millions that read the book do we really need millions saying they dont?:confused::confused::confused:
 
I have not read the books but I was forced to take my children to see the first two films and they were better than I expected. In fact, the first one was very entertaining.

They take themselves now!
 
People have to understand that the books were released in 1997, and many of the fans accumulated around 1999 with the release of Goblet of Fire. The earlier books are well over a decade old, and with it, its original readers are also a decade older.

I got into the books in 2001 when I was 10. Deathly Hallows: Part II will be released in cinemas in May 2011. I'll be 20 years old when it's released; many of its original fans will be approaching 30 (if they started in 2001, at say aged 16 or 17). I don't think its sad at all that many adults read the books or even watch the films. It's an aging generation of fans.

I have to say that anybody who hasn't read them IS missing out. I'm, of course, biased because they were my childhood books.. but then again, I'm sure I'm missing out from not having read Lord of the Rings or any Emily Bronte novel. Everybody has different tastes, and HP isn't the only multimillion dollar movie franchise. Think of James Bond!

Nobody is forced to do anything. :p
 
? The OP wanted to know who else hasn't read the books or seen the films and people are answering that question. I don't see a problem there? People are as entitled to say they have no interest as you are to say you like them.
