...look like total flaming queens? I mean unless your in the tour de france, theres not much airdrag diff when you wear a normal pair of shorts, as i do when i ride.
I just think guys look totllay gay when they're going around in ballerina tights.
well ive probably offended all the sensitive guys wearing oh so tight shorts havent i? ha ha ha

You misunderstand... it isnt really about performance, or as the other posters would have you believe, nor is it about comfort. A very large part of road biking, regardless of what they admit to, is the style which includes 'looking' like a pro. Having ridden 50-100 mile rides in both... You CAN get the same performance and comfort benefits from a good pair of baggies with a chamois built in or just a stand alone chamois and some baggies but you cant get that "Look at me, I'm a pro" style from baggies.

Cycling short are not only to reduce aerodynamic drag they also reduce chafing. The shorts are padded to provide comfort on long rides and dissipate sweat, you stay much cooler. The compression properties also help your muscles fight fatigue.

I always thought they looked silly until I got a pair. Now I really understand why they are worn and don't care what anyone thinks.

They wear them for comfort on long rides, it isn't a matter of air drag. Even the loose padded shorts rub and chaff skin away after a while, the tight ones minimize it. I agree with you, I don't like the way they look, but comfort before style.
