So i got a new 8 week old beagle mix puppy about 4 days ago. She sleeps in a 5ft x 5ft pen downstairs. I hear her cry downstairs sometimes in the middle of the night so i go downstairs and take her outside. She dosent go to the bathroom. So i put her back in her pen and go back to sleep. She just continues to whine. But she will stop in 30-45 minutes and go to sleep. Am i right in ignoring her like this? If not what should i do?

have her crate in your room- at this point, it's not time for tough love yet. she's still a baby.

having experience with training dogs, I suggest you get an old bath towel, roll it up & place in a circle in your dogs bed, he/she will think it is part of the litter they have left, but will feel secure, the whining will stop.., as they get bigger, move the rolledtowel to the edge of their bed, they usually put their chin on....even add an old slipper of yours, as you smell will be there , again loliness will disappear.....you must ignore the whinning or you will never know in the future when your dog is ill or crying for attention...promise you the above does work, have done it with all my dogs

Yes, you are right. Put something that smells like you with her that is safe like a towel or blanket or t-shirt. Also you should be waking up to take her to go to he bathroom every 3 hours.
