This is going to sound really weird, but I'm just going to explain in the easiest way possible what's going on.
Ever since I can remember, I've been able to 'read' the piano differently to other people... when I look at the keys, I *see* songs and melodies jumping right at me, and I can virtually play them straight away. I can play a song just by watching and hearing someone else play (you could call it 'playing by ear' but it's different... I can't really explain it). I asked one of the piano teachers at school if I could use a piano room on my own during a lunchtime, and she walked past and found it really strange that I was playing without sheet music, which was kinda embarassing - it just looks like lines, dots and squiggles on a piece of paper... it's never made sense to me, even though we were taught to read it last year in music. A few of my friends have been taking lessons for years, and I watched them play one song and was playing it myself within 10 minutes. My Mum tells me that I'm gifted but it makes me feel really, really uncomfortable because in a way I wish I could read the music and learn properly. I'm not trying to 'toot my own horn' or fish for compliments, I honestly just want to know if there's something wrong with me. I'm not Mozart or anything (there's plenty of things I can't play quite yet, LOL) but I feel like it's just so simple for me. I was told by someone that it's because left-handers are more creative than right-handers (I'm a leftie), and it explains why I'm awful at maths too, because apparently right-handers are more logic.
