Am I experiencing a cold? Or is it something else?

Okay, so I started writing this at 5:35 AM on a Friday morning. I have school in one hour and fifty minutes. Strangely enough, I had planned for today to be the day I finally pay off some of the massive amounts of sleep debt I accumulated this week. One thing led to another, and here I am, not having slept a moment and a little more than an hour from school. But I digress...(that's the most D*****-baggy thing anyone could ever say, by the way.).

I got that feeling like the thing in the back of my throat (the thing that looks like a punching bag, supposed to make you throw up if you touch it) is covered in some sort of sickly slime. When I swallow, it just feels bad (drinking milk is particularly unpleasant when my throat gets like this). I'm also thinking that this condition is what's keeping me from sleeping. I recall having this feeling at school once, and despite having slept about zilch the previous evening, not sleeping at all in class. That's the good side of this: I'm not worried about falling asleep out of exhaustion. On the bad side, I'm going to be feeling lethargic all day, can't drink anything comfortably, and I have a probable cold for the weekend. (M***********!)

So basically, painful swallowing, can't fall asleep due to constant feeling of slimy-ness in the back of the throat. Is that a cold? Or a sore throat? Is there any chance this might clear up real soon? Any suggested remedies?

Any help would be appreciated.
