Am I eating enough to lose weight?

I just started a diet and exercise program, my Heart Rate Monitor said I lost 1000 kCal which started to worry me. I usually lose between 300-1000 per session

I am 230 lbs (104 kg), Male and am eating around 1200 - 1500 Calories per day, by eating good foods I find it hard to eat more than that, i get full and stop eating (I am eating 7-8 small meals a day)

I have lost 8 lbs (about 4 kg) in about 2 weeks but I think that is because I was eating only fast food until this point and that has slowed or may have even stopped now at the end of the third week.

I have narrowed it down to 2 things
1. I am gaining muscle (possible, I have started lifting)
2. I am not eating enough (or too much, but I doubt it)

Sorry about all the info, the question is

Am I eating enough?
