Am I connecting the wires right on the LED strip?

I cut the red and black wire from the back of the cigarette lighter and then wired the red to the + wire on the LED strip then the black to the black ground on the LED strip and and nothing happens...I have good connection between the wires. Does anyone know why this is happening?
 
Did you meter the leads to see if you are getting 12v to the wire ends?

you may have blown the lighter fuse when cutting the wires.

also check ground.
