Am I buying American if I buy a Mazda?

Since Mazda is owned by Ford a US company, and the Mazda 4 and 6 cylinder engines are mostly produced in the US. does that mean I would be supporting the US auto industry if I bought a Mazda 3?
What about a Volvo S30, since the Ford Focus, Mazda3, and Volvo S30 all share the same engine transmission, frame, electronics, just different body's and interiors. And all owned by Ford.

To answer your question you only have to look at one thing. Where is the Corporate Headquarters for this company. Mazda is headquartered in Japan, Volvo in Sweden. All of their corporate profits got back to HQ. They don't stay in the USA.

You can argue about parts sharing and who owns who and how much and who builds the car and where are the factories and where all of the component parts come from until you are blue in the face. Only one thing matters. What country is the corporation located in.

Neither are US corporations.

Ford only owns about 30% of each company. This allows all of them to benefit from production of parts & technologies. Only the Mazda 6 & truck are built in the US. The 6 is unique only to Mazda and the truck is a re-badged Ford Ranger. This isn't anything new considering they all do it. The old Geo Prism was a re-badged Toyota Corolla as an example. If you bought a 3, it will come straight from Japan & probably do little or nothing to support workers in the US. So step up into a Mazda 6 if you want to help out.

Ford owns 0% of Mazda as of the end of 2008. They sold off their remaining shares and partial ownership.

The car you buy doesn't make you any less of an American.

Unions will do their best to promote propoganda that we are 'bad Americans' for not buying something that they produce, even if it is something you don't want in the first place.
The funny thing is that they are not willing to concede anything to help the American companies get back on their feet.

Sorry, but when you put out crap like the Chevy Cobalt to compete against the Mazda 3, you can't expect people to jump for joy and rush out to buy it.

Buy what you want to buy.
