Me and my bloke brought a P Reg Ford Fiesta off a garage 4 months ago and have only driven it a handful of times in the first month! After a month of use, the fiesta broke down whilst on my way to work. I was picked up by the AA who said it appeared the head gasket had gone and he took me to my local garage. Before that garage touched the car, my partner got in touch with the garage we brought it off and told them to fix it for free as we had only had it just over a month. They claimed we only had a months warranty and as we were just outside the warranty they said they'd do the labour for free to be kind and we'd just have to pay for the new part. Although slightly annoyed we decided to take the car to them as it would cost us much more elsewhere. That evening we towed the car to the garage only to get 1 mile down the road and the front came flying off!!! AA once again were called and they said it looks like the car had been in an accident previously and someone had repaired it dodgily cos nothing was attached properly. Took it to our garage, they said they'd fix it. 2 weeks past and we went to pick it up we were informed the piston had gone and we would need a new engine. By this time we were very annoyed and just wanted the money back we spent on buying the car. They refused and after a week of arguing with them, we decided to pay for them to fit a new engine (labour free) as it would just cost us more to by a new car. Eventually got the car back and all repairs had cost us about £400 (car was only brought for £500)!!! Drove car that day and the clutch went! Demanded the garage fix the problem only for them to turn up and make no difference what so ever to the clutch. Told they would come out again the next day, no one turned up. Rang garage and was told the guy had gone on holiday and no one else would accept responsibility for the fiesta and would have to wait 2 weeks for him to return. Now they are saying that we will have to pay for clutch to be fixed when we argue that the clutch was working fine when we first gave it to them! They argue that it is just one of those things and you can never tell when a clutch will go. We have driven no more than 50 miles in that car since we have had it! Are we totally being taken for a ride?? Do we have any rights to our money back?? Please help!

You need to go to CAB (citizens advice bureau) they can help you with the situation.

as you are aa members you should contact the legal dept.and get advice from them.good luck as it sounds like you have bought a lemon.also get the mot certificate verified

By law here in the states, you can return a car for a full refund within the first 72 hours. After that...it's all on you and the deal (contract) signed at the time of purchase. There is an old saying...caveat emptor...which means buyer beware. You should have had the car checked out buy a reputable mechanic or at least someone you trust prior to buying it. Sorry, but you may be SOL. You might want to call your version of the Better Business Bureau and see if there is anything they can do. If you do suspect you were ripped off, a call to a local TV station might get the dealer to change his mind about refunding your money. Nothing travels faster than bad publicity.

Most certainly - But taking them to Court may prove time consuming and costly although by the sound of it they havnt a leg to stand on.It was not fit for purpose. Did this garage issue it with an MOT?

You should have saved 49 miles and used the other to clip every motor on the forecourt and then drive it thru the showroom window - set fire to it and mention that these things happen/.
