Ok struggling to think whether what I'm thinking is righ with the amount of nhs proffessionals telling otherwise.

Ok so i'm a young 22year old who has had a bad back for over a year now, I first had an nhs Rhumatologist confirm what I thought that it was soft tissue muscle damage. After a year I had enough and decided to go private, within 5minutes he told me I had had a thrasic disc prolapse therefore making it actually spinal.

Iv had numerous people mention MRI scans and much info I hav looked at on the net has mentioned MRI scans so as u can image I feel as tho I shud of had one by now.

Since I have been seeing the private physiotherapist my upper back has improved immensly, but my lower back has made zero recovery and last week started a massively turable downwarRAB, to the point it was excruciating pain to walk and I was spending all my time in bed. As u can imagine I paniced and hav become extremly worried, went doctors asked for an MRI scan as I'm so worried and only 22years. The doc assured me I didn't need one and referee back to the rhumatologist who got it completly wrong, I explained bout my physio, so he sed if he writes to him.... So asked physio who then got offended as he obviously thought I was undermining him.

so omg massively stressed, feel like no ones listening and I hav no idea wat to do. Can anyone offer me advise? Are the medical proffessionals in te right here thinking I don't need an MRI scan?

Thanks x

Hi there, i am 23 years old and have had chronic back pain for 12+ years now. I to am to so frustrated of lack of help and advise i still haven't got a diagnosis for my pain! i am currently on morphine to help the pain and i worry how long i will have to be taking this! All i can say is try to get everything there is posible, any scans or x-rays there is take them. Also do your own research because most of the time dotors haven't got the time or can't be bothered to make time, they will only really do what you ask them to! If there is anything i an advise you on don't hestiate. Rest up x

>>>>>>>>>I'm so sorry you aren't getting the medical care you should have. I do think you need to have an MRI, but your system in England is different so I can't advise you as to how to go about getting one. Can you go to an orthopedic spine specialist or a neurosurgeon? Either one would probably order the MRI and are the best at reading them. That doesn't imply that you need surgery, just that you need the specialist who is most able to diagnose your problem properly.

Other than that, you would, I suppose, have to choose which of your doctors you would have the best luck at prodding him into ordering the scan for you.

I hope you will return and let us know how things are going. You are so young to be having these problems.

I agree with Carol's suggestions and also understand that it's not as easy for you to get to see physicians or get tests ordered. With the continual low back I think and MRI is a good idea and then an evaluation by a spine specialist (Orthopedic Spine Surgeon or Neurosurgeon)

Thanks for all that info guys it's really helpful and makes me feel more positive :)

Jayne I actually can't belive how long u have been suffering u poor thing. :(

I'm seeing a good doctor on Friday so fingers crossed he wil listen. He's usually quite helpful, although the last time I asked him for an MRI the response I got was "do u know how expensive they are!!!" how rude hey. But he's the beat doc iv seen so far so il try again with him.

It's helpful to know about spine specialist etc never realised I'd b entitled to see them unless I needed an op, I'm sure it'll b another battle but least I know wat to battle for :) thank u all
