I think you made a good call!
The parents of the kid should be flogged for letting their kid do that. If you know the parents well you may want to ask them to reconsider for the kids and others safety, especially if he is a 'green' rider.

Further, he is an uninsured motorist-- what happens to your insurance costs if he takes you down? How will people on the ride feel if he lost his life or causes the loss of life of others?

That's just irresponsible parenting in my book....

Being concerned and prudent in what you are doing does not constitute doing anything improper! Knowingly riding with anyone who is outside the limits imposed by traffic/highway laws is not a smart thing to be doing. Would you knowingly ride with someone who was impaired? And yes I know there is a difference, but there is still a breach of the law and an added risk to all parties. The parents are being unfair to the group and to their son to endanger all.
 
The parents know what they are doing alright. They are teaching their kid it's OK to break laws you don't agree with. Those 16 year olds circling the globe were not breaking any law. I don't care if he's the best rider on the planet. Riding a motorcycle with no license and no insurance is breaking the law. If you don't like the law, change it, but don't break it. There are a lot of laws someone does not agree with, but you can't just break the laws you don't like. I'd imagine most criminals wish what got them locked up was legal. I like having a laws that say car drivers and motorcycle riders need to be licensed and insured.

Does it count if someone goes 5 miles over the speed limit? That's outside the limits.

This guys son can likely ride circles around us. Dad is spending quality time with him while the other kids are joining gangs and shooting up our streets at night.
 
I agree, stay away. There are some "experienced" riders that I know that I refuse to ride with because they have a tendency to swerve side to side in the lane.
 
I would have done the same thing dude, I hate riding with people I don't know, I can kind of quickly assess their skills by how good there group edicate is but it just take all of the fun out of it when you have a clown around. I appreiate the parents taking the initiative to get the kid something of a lifetime but really don't agree with their decission of putting him on the road. At his age that is what the dirt and the track is for.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'd started riding on the street at age 13 on a S90. By age 14 I was on a 305 (scrambler, wish I still had it) , then at 15 on a 750. Of course, that was more than a few years ago, and things have changed.
