BP, nah, you're not a douchebag. If the kid's parents were friends of mine, I'd politely disinvite them if they insisted on bringing the kid.

The fact that you are struggling over it - be it right or wrong - is a good indication that passing on this ride is the best way to go. Taking all of the obvious and previously stated reasons aside, you would be stressed out the entire time riding. What fun is that?
 
If you don't feel comfortable don't go. You will be distracted the whole time worrying about the kid.

I ride with new riders a lot though, it's mostly wifes or girlfriends who took up riding their own bike.
I don't have a problem, we all just give them some room.....and they should ride in the back of the pack.

You are not a douchebag for being concerned.
 
If you do not want to ride, do not ride. IMO you are a full on douche bag if you call CPS or the police. If he is a good friend tell him your concerns as strongly as you can and leave it alone.

So if he were six months older it would be OK? If his skill level concerns you then that would probably still be a problem. He is in no more danger now then he will be then. If breaking the law is the issue then mind your own business and move on. We are turning into a bunch of nanny state rats, IMO.
 
If your uncomfortable stay clear...definitely not a "Douche Bag" Parent's on the other hand are...BTW let us know how the episode played out...
 
depends on the kids experience level. his reflexes and reaction time are quicker then old people and his eyesight is probably better too, betcha the kid can even make up hs own mind and didn't post on a forum should I ride with my dad.... JMO
