Am I any good as a poet?

"Sea green eyes and golden tresses
Light a Grecian maiden's face
Child of Pericles's city;
Sadness of young years confesses
Lending her a native grace
And she demands no pity."

This was to a friend of mine in Athens. It's not finished yet.

I want to try and get published when I have a collection of a few hundred poems... am I good enough?

Here's another stanza I wrote, unrelated:

"Have far and wide enough about the Soul
I journeyed by my Mortal Mind to see
The tributaries that had guided me
Impoverish inside a miry shoal?
Has amply taken been my journey's toll
On Head and Heart of mine for me to be
Absurd Quixote or a debauchee?
My mended inner shreds do not make a whole."

PLEASE answer with great honesty. I have a lot of pain in my life and this is the only good thing I might have going for me so I really need a reality check... specifically, is a book of this something YOU would pay a little bit to own and read?

If you want the truth, here it is:
It's great! :)

I've been in Advanced Placement Literature class in high school and all we read were really complicated and complex poetry and yours really reminded me of a poem that one of the complex/sophisticated poets wrote. It's good. I don't particularly like buying poetry books but I think someone would buy yours.

Besides, Wallace Stevens, a great American modernist poet, wrote a poem called "The Emperor of Ice Cream". o_o Even with a simple/strange name like that, he gained a lot of popularity and success. Poetry is an art and like all art, you don't need someone to judge it. Your poem sounds great. Really :)

i must say that yes, you are...

Such tematics in poetry is becoming a precious rare breed...

Everyone is so busy thinking about the cruelty of this, the cruelty of that, you could almost say that the 21 century is the century of UNpoetry -.-

Keep up the good work, classic, stylish, with an actual notion of aesthetics...

I must confess i'm really glad to read classic references in something written nowadays, even if not from someone "famous" ( just guessing..)
