Hi im currently looking for a new car, i like the old honda civic 1.6 (95-01) but its getting really difficult to find one that hasn't had a boy racer behind the wheel that's added extras.

I think im going too have to look for a alternative, i would like similar performance, build quality, reliability, and insurance (or even lower insurance) and probably a 3 door although i will look at 5 doors.

I have just thought of the peugeot 206 gti 2.0 3 door, what are these like to drive, how is the reliability compared to the honda.

Any other ideas?

Thanks
budget is around 3-3.5k.

Don't go for the 206 GTI, reasons being 1. It Is French and Is no way near as reliable as Honda 2. It Is branded "GTI and Is a hothatch so It might seem standard with a current mature owner but you don't know who owned It before them.

I guess your referring to Honda Civic 1.6 VTI? Gorgeous car! I'd love one myself but I agree they are very difficult to find standard these days although there Is one or two on pistonheads.com at the moment In standard condition.

Alternatives that 'come close' to what your after Is;

Toyota Corolla T Sport or Toyota Yaris 1.5 T Sport (Depends on what size/power your after) You get the Japanese reliability, have a slightly more modern look than the 95-01 Civic and are all moderately standard with mature owners.

VW Golf mk4 - Although not Japanese their engines are equally as reliable and again they come In a range of engine sizes.

Loads more but It's personal choice I say so have a look around using filters on autotrader.
