Alternative casting decisions

Just a little bored so I thought I would ask:

Are there any films where, if you were the Director, you would have cast a different leading man or lady, and how do you think the film would have gone down with the public?

I know there are a few films where up to the last minute they had someone else cast in the role, but these can be ignored for this purpose
 
"Ali" -An unknown actor instead of Will Smith

"Boogie Nights" -One my all-time faves., but I liked PT Anderson's original choice of Leonardo DiCaprio to play Dirk Diggler. Wahlberg was a revelation, but DiCaprio would have brought a different quality to the character. Win-win either way.

"The Bonfire Of The Vanities" -Jeff Bridges instead of Tom Hanks.

"Superman Returns" -Vin Diesel in for Kevin Spacey. Not the better actor, but better suited for the part.

"The Dark Knight" -I thought it should have been Paul Bettany to play the Joker, but Ledger should do nicely.
 
There's a film coming out this year based on the videogame called Hitman starring Timothy Olyphant, i've played most of the games and always thought perfect person for that film would be Jason Statham especially after watching the Transporter.
Fair enough he can be joke in films but I reckon he could show a darker side, when I saw the trailer with Olyphant he looked too babyfaced for the part.
 
i would love to recast any actor in the Matrix over Keanu. The movie is a classic but i cannot stand Keanu's 'acting style', he is so vacuous, i wasnt convinced he could even switch on a PC to 'hack' it let alone be the 'chosen one'.
 
apparently, the original choice was to be Vin Diesel but he pulled out at the last moment. Olyphant is really good in Deadwood but I didnt buy his performance in Die Hard 4 so it could go either way.
 
Leonardo DiCaprio was offered the part of Anakin Skywalker of Start Wars ep II. He turned it down.

Ohh.. what could have been.

Anyone other than HC would be a start.
 
Would have been interesting if Jake Gyllenhaal had replaced Toby Maguire as Spiderman (mind you, this may have more to do with a desire to see La Gyllenhaal in skin tight lycra :o )
