GOV. ban assault weaopons?)? alright i dont know which side i am, im debating on friday its my first time : ) so i did both of them i will list to proposing side
Pro:
I think The U.S Federal Government should ban assault weapons because…
1. Owning and possessing an Assault Weapon is a great responsibility, landing in the wrong hands it can cause serious damage to someone, but does the average person need an Assault Weapon? More than 10,000 people die every year due to Assault Weapons. An Assault Weapon’s ban would reduce the amounts of deaths each year caused by Assault Weapons, because of the impact it would have on citizens. For example, the United States has had a dramatic increase of murder since 1960-2008 of 18%, 14% of these murders come from the Assault Weapons. If we banned Assault Weapons in the U.S we could drop murders is the U.S caused by Assault Weapons from 14% to 4%.
2. The National Firearms Act of 1934 stated that the use of Automatic Assault Weapons is illegal to the regular every day American, unless he or she has filled out the necessary papers plus a fee of $200, The National Firearms Act forgot to include in its bill that the tampering of a semi-automatic weapon and modifying it to an Automatic Assault weapon is illegal. Our Ban would enforce that law very strictly, and make sure any legal citizen caught or selling an Automatic Assault Weapon will be faced with a punishment that follows up with the National Firearms Act.
3. Self Defense is a really important key aspect of America’s freedom. Americans use self defense every day, but can self defense be used to kill? America’s use of Assault weapons in self defense has been in fact, abused, the percent of Americans using self defense now has risen 10% from 2008 to 2009 ,and 5% of these incidents were minor, including fights that could easily be disputed with other self defense mechanisms than could be easily obtained ,than using the more extreme ,assault weapons. If we were to ban the use of Assault Weapons, the percentage of Americans using Assault Weapons in minor self defense situations could easily be resolved.
4. Almost 70% of guns found in Mexico have found its origins back to the U.S so therefore
This Ban would also help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border.

now the opposing sides argument:
Op
I think the U.S gov. should not take away Assault Weapons because
1. It imposes on our 2nd amendment”The Right to Bear Arms”, and this right has been with us for over the centuries. Do we really want our weapons that help us in self defense, to be taken away? The number of people each year in a household who have died because they did possess a firearm has in fact decreased by 5% over the past 4 years, and evidence suggests that crime rate has decreased due to
2. the fact that people in homes were protected by munitions, but if this ban on assault weapons takes place, people in homes will not be protected against someone who did not give up their gun, and in fact the crime rate would increase to about 10% in the next couple years.
3. There is no evidence to suggest that guns were the main causes of deaths in the United States .From 1990-2008, knifes were the 80% causes of deaths in the United States, so implementing an assault weapons ban would not reduce. And what about people who use guns for survival in the woods, Do they need to give up their way of life just because this ban says so? What about when there is no food on the table to provide for your children and your out in the middle of nowhere? , The northern portion of the United States depends solely on hunting for bear and deer meat if we were to implement this ban on assault weapons how will they survive and live?
4. The ban shouldn’t focus on stripping the 2nd amendment right from the U.S citizens, but just who is the main cause of all these deaths in the U.S, the answer is simple, U.S. Drug dealers. Drug Dealers in the U.S are giving these drug cartels along the U.S border, assault weapons, so this means its not the average everyday Americans fault, its people along the border that are engaging in the illicit drug distribution of narcotics
