Already returned key now won't open the door :(?

We rented a place in New Jersey and moved out last weekend. During the handover everything was fine, so we gave the keys to the agent and landlord, who both were present, even though we still paid the rent for another month.

On the next day the landlord claimed he could not get into the apartment as non of the provided keys worked for one of the locks (the second lock still works fine and we have used both before). Now, my guess is the lock broke, so I went there and looked at it with him - the keys wouldn't work.

The question is: he now claims I need to provide a set of working keys (which form my point of view I did), otherwise he would ask a locksmith to open the door and replace the lock, which he would bill me for.

What should I do in this situation?
Should I get someone to replace the lock and proof somehow that the provided keys were indeed the working ones and the lock was broken or what do you recommend?

Thanks for any help!!
