Almost constant hunger

Hi,

In the past couple of weeks, I've been experiencing what I can only describe as a seemingly constant hunger, but not all the time...if that isn't contradictory!

What I mean is, I'll eat a fair-sized meal, but I'll still have a hunger-like sensation, especially in my arms. I also sometimes get a feeling of hunger in my stomach as well, but I know I'm full.

I don't have a lack of energy, though, and can easily manage my day-to-day activities, although sometimes my hands are bit...not shaky, but like hands get when you're very hungry!

I mentioned this to someone in my family, and their immediate response was that it could be diabetes. Two members of my family have type 1, so there is a history of it, although my diet isn't anything out of the ordinary so I don't know what could have set it off, if it is indeed that.

I've decided to go to the doctor if it hasn't cleared up by the end of the week, although I'm one of these people who dreads going in case it's something serious (and, strangely, that doesn't include diabetes, because I know it's manageable, i.e. it's not something fatal :o) Can anyone perhaps put my mind at rest, based on what I've described (and what I've described is what I'd say to my doctor anyway).

Thanks.

Sorry for replying to my own thread, but I thought I'd update.

I went to my GP yesterday and, by all intents and purposes, I'm fine.

Blood-glucose level is normal; blood pressure is normal; I've absolutely no other symptoms...

So he said it's one of three things:

1) A virus, that should just be left to run its course
2) A problem with my diet and/or the way eat, i.e. missing breakfast some days, eating lunch whilst working etc.
3) Some form of sub-concious stress about upcoming deadlines, exams etc.

He said he could send me for more blood tests if I wanted, but the fact I've no other symptoms would mean they more than likely would not show anything abnormal.

So I've to give it a few weeks till after my exams to see if it's still there; if it is, he'll book me in for the tests.
