Alltel/AT&T divested markets

It could be years though. Think of big a task they are taking on and they move slow as is. They still haven't finished converting all the analog tower to digital in NV/CA. I bet its 3+ years before you have to change your phone and plan. Im sure they will focus their energy on the biggest population areas first.

I think the last time I heard that was about 6 months to a year ago.

I am personally just chilling by now. I finally got the EvDO fixed on my MotoQ (no data pack, free 1,000 SMS/month, $9.99 add-a-line), and now I'm just waiting for this to happen by the time I graduate and move (May 2011). If it's not, I'll have a good laugh. :2thumbs: Because I think that's exactly what's going to happen.

To the person who said the Sioux aren't getting an extortionary giveaway (or something to that effect), what does that mean? Is it that the Injuns in the Dakotas are whining and pouting and delaying the transaction?

They need to hurry the h*ll up. I've been waiting on a change here since the VZW announcement in June 2008. And the VZW integration has been done in Midland-Odessa since at LEAST 6 months ago. :o

Alltel/AT&T divested markets

An order approving the divestiture of Verizon Wireless assets in 79 markets in 18 states to AT&T, Inc., for $2.35 billion has been circulated to FCC Commissioners. The order began circulating on Tuesday, according to the agency

I keep hearing the switch will be flipped on in january for my area in wyoming. Some phones and store conversions likely to begin in september.

Depends on your market. I live in an market thats being converted to AT&T. Our market had 1 year contracts, but the 3 months free promo hasnt been around in a while.

3 months free on secondary lines is still around in Alltel/AT&T markets except on data cards. The 1 year contract with 2 year pricing promo ended yesterday(8/12). 2 year contracts are now required for the lowest price and mail in rebates.

Wow clay, I can't believe they ended that before converting to AT&T... does that mean they're prepared to support these customers with Alltel equipment for two years from today? I thought they HAD to convert everyone within a year of transaction close. Wow, just wow... that's bad news I think...

Every single CDMA device will be replaced with a comparable new UMTS device free of charge. If customers don't select the model they want then one will be selected for them. There will be zero CDMA customers beyond April of 2011. The CDMA network will remain until 6/22/2013 but only roaming customers will be using it.

Thanks clay, that's very reassuring! I know you can't tell me what a comparable device to my Hero will be, but I'm assuming it'll be an HTC Aria not a Samsung Captivate. Do you know if upgrading to a Captivate will be possible for a discount? No worries if you can't say anything!

Specific device mapping hasn't been finalized but everyone will get a choice of at least 3 comparable handsets, some will be able to choose from up to 12 with no change to contract or rate plan. Everyone will be "upgrade" eligible regardless of contracts status. If you don't like your options you can start a new 2 year contract and select from any handset AT&T offers, however going this route will in most cases require changing to a current AT&T rate plan. If you don't like the device you selected you have 30 days from the day your AT&T service activates to exchange it for a different device.

Personally I think it is a win-win for a majority of customers.

Wow, that's definitely a no-lose situation clay! Thanks for all the info! I sent you a PM about my account if you get a chance to read it... Thanks, Mark

seems like at&t may be trying to start off the new relationship they will develop with former alltel customers with just a little less confusion than vzw did.
