Alltel/AT&T divested markets

Oh great. Now they are accusing Verizon and ATT of collusion, and saying that Morgan Stanley had a conflict of interest in handling the sale because they own a big chunk of Atlantic. They are recommending that the DOJ do a full investigation before the FCC makes a decision. I would be very surprised now if this buyout gets approved anytime soon.

I have absolutely no knowledge of 700MHz so whether it is better, worse or indifferent in a rural market, and therefore I could not and would not comment, but didn't the safety agencies (I believe Federal and State) file for use of the 700 MHz frequency? Would that not preclude making that band unavailable?

"Just repeating the frustration. I mean come on Markie how many more delay tactics can these companies do before something can happen."

I hate to bring up politics. All I'll say on it though is that I am almost certain it would've been approved by now under our previous administration.

tim, that's a distinguishing factor of ALL Democrats, the party is rather openly anti-big business. The idea being that the interests of big businesses and individuals are inherently opposed. You decide if that's true for you.

Personally, I switched back from MTPCS Cellular One to Alltel so I wouldn't have data roaming charges when I got a smartphone - the type of pro-customer benefit only a large carrier able to negotiate good roaming agreements can offer...

I know that in eastern SD there are several small, local carriers that a person can choose if they don't like the big guys. I'm in the same boat as you thought markie in that I prefer the roaming and data benefits that the larger companies are able to negotiate.

I feel that it would be worse if Verizon were allowed to be the only large cell phone provider and all the others were small, locally owned providers. Then Verizon would be the only national carrier in the area and that certainly can't be good for competition.

I was going to say exactly the same. It could go on another year if they are investigating something. At what point does the buyer say forget it, we dont even want it anymore. Or maybe thats the plan.

I wonder if AT&T gave up on the sale who else would have that kind of money to buy up these divested areas. I seriously doubt though that AT&T would give up buying these divested areas, since they have no coverage in these areas.
