Alltel/AT&T divested markets

Alltel just announced the 3 mo free promo for all new add on lines (which they had kept extending one month at a time) was just extended until SEPTEMBER! They buyout will probably not happen soon. Alltel (or Verizon rather) has setup the 3 months free promo, the $40 wireless internet card price (when combined with a smartphone plan) and 1 year agreements to add a larger customer base prior to the buyout. The more lines Alltel has activated will fetch a higher price once sold to AT&T. I am not holding my breathe for the merger since it was supposed to happen SPRING OF 09 Please share any insight or opinions you have, but the buyout is most likely not going to happen soon :(

The buyout price is fixed and the Divestiture Trust's role is to keep the markets competitive. That means they can do anything they feel is necessary to keep the markets from losing customers. The 3 months free promo has been extended indefnitely internally but it was only communicated via a marketing perspective approximately one month at a time in order to appear like it would end anytime. In fact trust management employees were told in in early 2010 that the 3 months free promo would continue until the close of the sale in their respective markets to ATNI or AT&T.

This whole merger thing has gotten friggin ridiculous. :/

It seems like little to no movement is being done on this. Pathetic.

It's a complete joke. I feel sorry for the people in Western markets who are waiting for the iPhone and UMTS but have to wait because the Sioux people can't get a proper extoritionary giveaway. It's generally hard for me to feel sorry for AT&T but there's no reason they shouldn't take over these markets ASAP and be able to get to work.

Thank you for all the wonderful info, I am still not thinking anything is going to happen soon until I hear announcements because this buyout has taken FOREVER! Not to mention when (AND IF) it ever happens the long transition period, and my guess is that will be rough on the long time customer base.
Personally, I am just ready for some new phones. The Hero came out, which is a killer phone, but 1-2 out of every 10 of them is seeming to be defective from what I have noticed. (glitchy software maybe????) The blackberries are great phones, and I wonder if the Bold rumors are true about it coming over to Alltel, and the LG Touch and Tritan should not even be considered smartphones. Also, the standard phone lineup that Alltel is currently offering is horrible compared to the only other carrier (VZW, whom started charging outrageous data rates for most of their NON-smart, but kinda smart messaging phones, lol)
First I was told Alltel was waiting for ATNI because they wanted to make the purchase at the same time, that never happened. Now that ATNI has been purchased that cannot be used as an excuse any more..... What is the holdup? At least some info would be nice for all the people in the divested markets, instead just silence.........
Thanks for letting me vent! haha

The rumors about the blackberry bold coming to alltel is true i was talking with a store manager when i was in on monday and he told me one of the guys in the back was testing the blackberry bold out. And ive also heard from the manager that the fcc was suppose to approve it june 12 i believe but it got pushed back to june 23. So i guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Getting an approval would be really nice just so that we know what's going to happen and who our carrier will eventually be. But even after the approval I'm guessing it's going to take well over a year for the transition to ATT if the FCC approves everything.

Ive heard after the fcc approves the buyout it's suppose to take between 6 months and a year for everything to be completed

i think most that are coming back are the result of people not knowing how they work and how to maintain them (how to preserve battery life, memory management, etc)...its really not that hard to read directions or look up tips/tricks online...but maybe that b/c I care about what I buy....anywho I haven't seen a truly defective one yet...

I do feel bad for the AT&T/ALLTEL customers....at least the ATNI/AWCC/ALLTEL side has already got a pretty clear path of direction...

I have a clear path of direction. First week of Sept. when my last phone under contract is done with its contract, Im headed anywhere but AT&T. Cutting out unlimited data was the last straw. Heck, I may drive to northern ID just to sign up with Alltel/ATN. Probably not, but with my only other choice being VZW, I may look at one of the MVNOs (Page Plus, Straight Talk).

I already got my Northern ID account ready and waiting. Im not a fan of att either but there isn't much of a choice for you. Stay right where your at, nothing will change for a few years.

Did you check to see how much data you actually use? Only like 2% of all AT&T users use more than the 2gb cap they are going to and something like 75% are under the $15 cap. I guess if saving money is something you hate so be it. Also, if you are one of the two percent who do use over 2gb you can keep the current unlimited plan, the aren't forcing anyone to switch over.

That's not exactly true. No new customers will be able to get the unlimited plan anymore. It's only the existing customers that were grandfathered in.

I havent used more than 2gb since going to a Blackberry, but I did when I had a Windows Mobile phone. I occasionally tether when out of town, and will lose that ability with AT&T. And its assured that we will have to switch over to an AT&T plan and be forced into a GSM/UTMS handset at some point. By going with a discount carrier, I can save enough on two lines to get a data card and it will still be cheaper that my plan equivalent with AT&T.
