This is a huge surprise. We knew Verizon Wireless had a lot of drive and ambition, but wow. In less than 10 days, Verizon Wireless customers can already call Alltel customers--For Free!

Alltel customers aren't as happy with this. They are still not able to call Verizon Wireless customers for free.

The two major crevasses:

  • Doesn't work for Alltel customers calling Verizon Wireless customers.
  • Not all Alltel customers can be called for free from a Verizon Wireless device--Numbers are gradually added.
You would need to make sure your friends and family that had Alltel are included. Visit the all new Verizon Wireless Mobile to Mobile page.

This is an amazing story. Verizon Wireless has decided that the term IN Calling isn't eye catching enough. They have went with the rest of the flow and IN Calling is now referred to as Mobile to Mobile. This also goes for IN network texting--Now Mobile to Mobile texting.

Yea, they expect to have all of the customers merged over by tomorrow.

This is only a possibility (I am skeptical). The next step will be to merge billing systems which is expected to take an additional 3 weeks. Verizon Wireless is moving faster than expected.

Hey, you should go check on the VZW Mobile To Mobile Page and see if your Alltel number is now part of the Verizon Wireless Mobile To Mobile network.

When going to http://alltel.com , it will ask for your zipcode (if not already stored with a cookie). If you are in a market that is now owned by Verizon Wireless, it will then immediately redirect you to the Verizon Wireless homepage.

It gets very annoying, especially if you wish to actually view Alltel's website, since it makes it impossible for you to actually see their site without clearing your web browser history.

Just another step to the completion of Veritel :smart:.
