zyrtec usually works better for rashes than benedryl if that's your main concern. But keep in mind that it can also cause a rash on some people.

can you really get an allergy to an antibiotic days after you quit taking (and had been taking that pill for a week?) and I've been having this rash since Friday, now my gums are bleeding, tounge is starting to burn, esophagus hurts like hell, the rash does look like an allergic reaction (only strikes during the night) does get a little itcy, but there's not one darn thing I know of I'm allergic to that I've been using

my dr told me I could react to this medication after I quit taking it but I am having trouble with believing that is what is wrong with me, not that I don't want to believe him but I just don't think he has any idea what it really is

and forgot to mention to him how I took this same pill at the end of october and it didn't cause an allergic reaction then

but I did react to the needle form of it once (rash and itching) and benydril took care of that fast, it helped the itching with this but did not clear up the rash or stop it from recurring

I'm told not to use it again, and really that's the only thing I can take that works for a UTI

cipro gives me yeast infection and microbid aint worth a quarter

i may not take bactrim right now but i dont think i will forever give it up.

i haven't a clue how allergies work cause it isn't like it's something I've ever had a problem but one time in my life so yea well am I wrong in what i'm thinking?

my throat is irritated too but this isn't strep UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHG!

he thinks blood clotting issues are causing the bleeding gums and yea I take Ibuprofen all the time but I still have to argue with that, I think it's part of this weird inflammatory reaction

oh here's a thought, what if where I'm withdrawing from nicotice is causing a reaction? could it? i cheated and smoking a few last night after not having NONE for days and I didn't break out as bad. HUM but that would be weird.

No that's not my main concern but thank you.

This is what I'd really like to know, if you are allergic to a medication, can you take allergy medication and just go ahead and use that medication your allergic to, would it stop you from reacting. Cause from time to time I will end up needing this antibiotic and the others I just don't like em for good reason.

OK, I went back and reread your original post. Since Bactrim is a sulfa drugs, you should stay away from that whole class of antibiotics. If Cipro works but gives you a yeast infection (very very very common ocurrence for women0, then ask your doctor to give you the med that counteracts that to take at the same time (I forget the name of it!). That is commonly done.

While your narrative is somewhat difficult to read, the overall answer is yes, you can react after having taken the entire prescription. I've had it happen to me with an antibiotic that I had taken for years with no problems.

No way. I used to keep those infections all the time and I don't get them anymore and don't plan on taking something that can cause it. I'd rather break out in a rash than have a y/infection. :p

am breaking out in that rash again tonite, i've been since 1 pm yesterday without a cigarette, I'm not having anxiety attacks like before so I don't think it's stress related, but I think it is however "not having nicotine" related

i stopped taking bactrim tuesday or wednesday last week, I broke out from friday-sunday (and hadn't had a cigarette for days), I smoked monday, tuesday (only itcy tuesday went half a day w/out a smoke), smoked until 1 pm yesterday, now the rash recurred tonight

If I quit taking bactrim, rash goes completely away for days, it can't be the medication, the stuff only stays in your system for up to 4 days after you quit taking it

and it doesn't occur if I smoke, now tell me that isn't weird

well i guess it could be the medication

but I smoked yesterday and did not break out with that rash last night

today I quit smoking (AGAIN) and I am getting itchy, i think this some kind of nicotine toxicity that occurs when I quit smoking

I haven't had that antibiotic for nearly a week.

I'm starting to think it just looks like an allergy cause why didn't benydril make the rash go away?

who knows

:dizzy:From my own personal experience I had taken advil for at least 20yrs. for pain associated with my L-5 disc herniated. I stopped for three months and now have an allergic reaction to this med. the two times i tried to take .There will not be a third! Explain that to me.:dizzy::

well I don't understand allergies very well. but I remeraber my doctor telling me that even though your not allergic to something that later on you can become allergic to it, and anti-inflammatory meRAB are bad about actually causing inflammation in your body even though they are supposed to help, you can get too much of a good thing, I used aspirin for 6 mths and it affected multiple organs in my body (inflammation & many little holes)

I may be just getting too much nicotine, trying to quit using nicotine gum and then going back and smoking, then quitting again, I don't use the gum at the actual time I am smoking but I've heard before not to use these nicotine products (patches and such) and smoke at the same time, that the corabination can have health consiquences of which I can't really remeraber what, but the way I see it, if it was indead the bactrim, then in a few days after I torchered myself w/out a cigarette again, I shouldn't see another break out like I've been having.

I am not going to give up using that medication in the future if it's not the reason behind this.

that is very odd.. I know all too well about antibiotic reactions and never heard of them going away and coming back. You can definitely get a delayed reaction.. last reaction I had I was on the antibiotic 7 full days and on the 8th or 9th day the rash started and got worse until it finally faded. A note on antibiotic reaction rashes.. they may start out patchy and spread but they will affect your entire body! Both times I had a reaction rash I had spots on the usual places but all the way down on my toes, on my lips (on places you didn't think you could get spots!!). Mine weren't itchy either time but I understand they can be.
If it IS an antibiotic, the reason they say to not take it again is sometimes if you have a rash the first time, you can actually have a worse reaction the second time and even go into anaphalactic shock.

I hope you figure it out though, good luck!

Okay I took the bactrim twice today, thought a rash was starting to break out, but I was wrong, my skin is kind of red, part of being light complected I guess.

So I want to stop smoking again but not before I make sure whether or not I'm allergic to bactrim.

How long after you stop taking it can it cause a reaction? I noticed the stuff helps the pressure/pain in my bladder & I'd like to take it every day like my urologist wanted me to the start with but I have to make sure it's not Bactrim breaking me out, but indead when I stop smoking.
