Hello everyone, I'm new to the website.

Two months ago, my psychiatrist got me on Oxcarbamazepine because I had hypomania and might be bipolar.

After 2 days I started noticing an allergy, but, as I usually get mild skin allergies from some things I eat, I thought it was one of those and took clorphenamine 4mg once every 8 hours (I don't get sleepy from antihistamines so I didn't care). The third day I still had the allergy so I called the psych, who told me to discontinue Oxcarbamazepine immediately, which I did. I thought it would be over, so I went to sleep.

4th day, I woke up and went out.. I felt incredibly itchy all the afternoon, so I took a clorphenamine every 4 hours. At night I got home, took my clothes off and noticed my skin looked as if someone had poured boiling water on me. I had red lines all over with a white center. I tried to go to sleep but I couldn't and the allergy was already in all my body from the neck down.

I went to ER at 1am, the doctor tried IV Clorphenamine and some other med, which wasn't enough. By that time even my face was covered with the allergy, it was getting worse. The doctor said I had erythema multiforme. He finally gave me IV Adrenaline, which made the symptoms go away. I stayed in the hospital 3 days, two of which they kept giving me IV clorphenamine, which did nothing. In the end they gave me corticosteroiRAB, which made the allergy disappear for some hours.

I went home taking 5mg Levocetirizine (antihistamine), which did nothing for my allergy and I was going crazy, so I went to a dermatologist who gave me Prednisone, for two weeks.

For those two weeks, I had the allergy for 12 hours at night, in spite of the antihistamine, but it was more bearable than before.

When I stopped taking the corticosteroid I got the allergy back. It's not as bad as before but it is extremely unpleasant. At first the doctors told me it would last 2 weeks to one month, but it's been two months and if I stop taking antihistamines I get a horrible allergy. I also can't eat normally, can't get exposed to the sun (I was also mildly allergic to the sun and got a local allergic reaction if i stayed too long in the sun without proper protection, but now 5 minutes on the sun are enough to give me the same reaction... And I must add, it's winter here!) and even worse, can't take any meRAB for my actual depression. I tried taking dormicum to sleep but I felt so itchy I couldn't sleep anyways, and I had a baad skin reaction for 2 days.

Is this really possible!? How much time should I expect to have this? Any similar experiences?
I can't even work because of this and it's only making my depression worse. :dizzy:
