Yesterday i went for my yearly allergy appt with the new doc. They did the full panel on my back.. the skin prick/scratch tests. I basically had no reaction. He asked if he wanted me to do the (can't remeraber the name) where they actually inject the allergen under the skin. I said sure. I had a reaction to grass, trees, ragweed and dogs. None of them really itched. The right arm i felt more. He said if i ever get fed up with feeling like this i could try shots.

If i don't have much of a reaction is it worth it to do the shots? not sure if it would make any difference in my sinusitis issues? Strange there was no reaction to cats. I usually get itchy eyes after holding a kitten.. adult cats don't seem to bother me. The doc seemed a little rushed.. and i couldn't tell him why my face was so puffy without getting upset. I put my old dog to sleep yesterday.

so if you don't think you have major reactions to things.. do you try shots? Maybe i'm having more of a reaction and don't notice?

Are you basing the fact that you didn't have much of a reaction on the fact that they didn't itch, or on the allergist's evaluation of your reaction?

The fact that they didn't itch very much isn't a good measure of how strong your reaction was (and even the doctor's analysis of the reaction is somewhat subjective, there's a lot of art to allergy testing).

As far as the shots go, they couldn't hurt (and they could help a lot), so you might as well give it a try.

Sorry to hear about your dog.

i guess the itching. I do have more symptoms when ragweed is high and in the spring with blooming trees. I just don't have any severe reaction to any. I think i am going to look into it. On another group i belong too a lady recommended the rapid desensitization schedule, like 3 mos. I'm clueless but if it helps any symptoms especially fatigue.. i'm going to try it. I'll call our HR and see what our ins pays. Is there a better time of year to start the process? right before spring?

Generally you should start them when your allergens are the lowest - usually Noveraber because nothing much is growing then. I know all 3 times I've been on them that's what was recommended.
