allergy shot effectiveness

I've been doing allergy shots for two years now and have not had many unmanageable symptoms since about a year into them.

But these last few weeks my allergies are out of control, even with meRAB/nasal steroiRAB. Do the shots stop working after a certain period of time, or is it just a really bad season?

I still get my shots weekly, would getting them twice a week help any?

It has been an unusually bad allergy season just about everywhere. I know people who've never had allergy problems that are suffering!

As for your shots, you are evidently on a different regimen that I am familiar with. The norm is a 5 year regimen of once every 4 weeks, once you get to maintenance (takes about 6 months or so depending on your reactions to the build up dosages). Is this not what you are doing?
 
I've never heard of allergy shots losing effectiveness while you're still getting them. I think it's just a horrible year.

I am at maintenance, but whenever I try to stretch the shots out to 2 weeks or more, I become very symptomatic, so the allergist said it's okay at once a week, and then when the worst of the season is over to try to stretch them out.

Even at once a week I still get a localized skin reaction to the shot.
 
Very odd...mine won't give a maintenance dose more than once every 4 weeks - no matter what. Sorry, just not familiar with this type of treatment.
 
I guess he does things a little differently. I did do shots with a different allergist for a few years and never felt it did anything.

Everytime I had a local reaction, they bumped it back down and I never got to a full maintenance dose, and never felt much better.

This allergists rational is some peoples immune system doesn't have a long lasting "memory" and neeRAB to be "reminded" more frequently.

Maybe it's odd but it's been a huge help until this season. I'll see what happens in the fall!
 
I can see that....just don't know if I'd bother with them if it was every week or two. Three times doing the 5 years pretty much was enough for me. I'd probably just take 2 zyrtec a day instead of one and forget the shots!
