Does anyone have any theories on if changing hormones or perimenopause can cause allergies or itchiness? I am wondering if that is part of my problem. Thanks!

i would dounbt it would have any influence. At least I've never had the problem nor heard of it. Think of all the people on bcp - it's the same thing as HRT. Just difference formulas and protocols.

Absolutely, yes, I think there is a connection. My hives started at 48, never had a problem until one day I got itchy and it lasted for eight and a half months! Now I get the occassional hive. I've read alot about this and have talked to many women who say that they have gotten itchier since peri menopause. I think more research should be done in this area and I definately think that allergies and hormones have a connection in some cases. I'm with you on that.

What are we supposed to do about it though? I don't want to go on HRT or anything. Was having a few hot flushes a while back but not anymore. My perioRAB have stopped, but that doesn't worry me. It's just annoying that I can't drink anymore.

I think that everyone is different when it comes to peri menopause symptoms, the best thing is to speak to your doctor. I don't have a good doctor to talk to so I try and figure things out myself. When I started getting the hives I went to an allergist and got all the tests done to see why I was getting them, everything came back normal and no allergies showed up. I don't think that enough research is done on this subject.

That's interesting. I'm 49 yo and peri-menopausal. Three years ago I developed an allergy to alcohol, eg. I get itchy palms and feet and break out in hives whenever I drink beer or wine. Also my asthma has been worse in the past year. :(

Yes, allergies can be affected by hormone levels.

Do a search on "estrogen dominance". I think I've been suffering from that for months now. I used to take progesterone cream but stopped as I was exercising and things seemed better.

But my allergies and sinus issues have been crazy! My eyes are so dry they feel like there's hair or dirt in my eyes.

When reading about estrogen dominance that happens during the perimenopausal years, I had a lot of those symptoms. Allegies, dry eyes, hair loss, fatigue etc.

Do a little read on it and see if you match some of the symptoms.

Thanks for your imput ladies. I am kind of thinking that is what is happening to me. I have more allergies and itchy feelings. I am kind of allergic to wine and wine coolers. I get itchy during certain times of the month. Like during pms and while having night sweats. I wish someone would do some research on this. But I think we can kind of answer it already.:):)

FYI, sorry for my earllier reply. I read "changing hormones" to be changing from one HRT to another.
