Allergic to the Cold?

Hi all

Yesturday I was outside for awhile shoveling snow. I had myself pretty well layered so I didn't feel the cold that much. A few minutes after coming inside and changing I noticed my legs starting to itch. At the top of my leg was raised red bumps that appeared in blotches. About an inch from that my leg was red with raised white bumps that went to about my knee. That part of my leg looked almost like cottage cheese (its the best way to describe it). The only thing that seemed to stop the itching was the warm water from the shower. As soon as I turned the water off the itching started.

I usually notice rashes when during the winter. Everytime I step out of the shower my arms, legs, and something torso get red blotches on them. It also happens when I come in and change after spending some time in the cold. They are not raised like they were yesturday, but they do itch. It didn't last long, only about 30 mins. or so.

Its like I am allergic to the cold. Is that even possible?

Thanks
KD

Cold uticaria (hives) is known medical condition. You may indeed have it.

Look into it some, usually the treatments are avoiding exposure to the cold, dressing well in layers, and allergy medicines like benadryl if it is unavoidable.

Hi
I have gotten hives from getting cold since I was a baby. My nephew has the same allergy. I find a simple OTC med keeps them away. I take it everyday since any change in temp will make me break out in hives. Make an appointment with a allergy Dr!
Good luck
