This is for all-time, not currently, not just in the 90's. I had to balance out my list based on influences as both a musician and a typically mindless listener.... (ahhhh, pretty noises)...

Britain
1. Pink Floyd
2. Led Zeppelin
3. Beatles
4. Jethro Tull
5. David Bowie

USA
1. Neil Young
2. Jimi Hendrix
3. Fishbone
4. Nirvana
5. Sublime

As a listener only my list would be slightly different, but that's more or less it. So what's on your list?

UK - Beatles , Stones , Bowie , Pistols , Smiths

US - Robert Johnson , Elvis , Dylan , Hendrix , Pixies

Given what I said about roots music in the other thread I think the US is better represented by solo artists

Well, I guess it means that they didn't make it into people's top 5's then.

Looking at the list, I am shocked that Queen haven't been mentioned though. They can go on my list. Kick um, Led Zeppelin off and replace them with Queen (that's right). Don't tell any Brummies I said that.

Britain
-Pink Floyd
-Led Zeppelin
-Beatles
-Rolling Stones
-David Bowie

USA
-Neil Young
-Jimi Hendrix
-Bob Dylan
-Nirvana
-??? I Can't come up with a name..

US –
Rage Against the Machine
Smashing Pumpkins
Incubus
Jeff Buckley
Head Automatica (Based on one album. A fickle, but earnest opinion.)

UK -
Muse
Radiohead
Blur (ex-britpopper, what can I say!)
Led Zepellin
David Bowie. He’s a band.

He's right (and they need all the good musicians they can get)... so I'm going to have to update Neil Young with Bob Dylan.. love his contribution and all but I'm not sure he was that direct of an influence on my music. So it's more like appreciation than anything else.

UK
1. Pink Floyd
2. Led Zeppelin
3. Beatles
4. Jethro Tull
5. Peter Gabriel (solo + him singing for Genesis but not when he came back to them)

USA
1. Bob Dylan
2. Jimi Hendrix
3. Fishbone
4. Nirvana
5. Tom Waits

Canada
1. Neil Young
2. Rush
3. (Hmmm)
4. ...
5. ....

Robert Johnson was an interesting choice. I'd have to agree. Solo performers in the states tend to be much stronger and more independant. You just don't get that sort of vibe overseas.

I'm wondering if showtime copied my list and just changed a few names or was it that similar to begin with...

Muzak, I was trying to think of banRAB that influence my muzak and to say that Elvis was an influence is kind of like saying that Adam and Eve influenced my birth. Also to generate responses like these. It's easy to throw out big names. It's hard to sit down and seriously think this through. Just ask showtime.... I'd be interested to see your list though and in order of importance.

mine revised

Britain
-Pink Floyd
-Led Zeppelin
-Beatles
-Rolling Stones
-AC/DC

USA
-The Eagles
-Jimi Hendrix
-Greatful Dead
-Nirvana
-Lynard Skynard

Actually Little Richard was the first person to make the transition from blues to rock. Blues-rock banRAB like Led Zep are less primitive to me and much more tasteful but their roots are not quite as close to home as the days of Elvis and such.

I would say technically it shouldn't count since their origins were are distinctly aussie - not to complain or anything.

What a funny thread! Are we talking about our all time favorites? The most influential banRAB? The banRAB with the biggest followings? Most recorRAB sold? Most talent?

The word "Top" implies many things!

Ac/Dc is Australian. Wiki that to double check my facts.

Well , with no Robert Johnson there would be no Rolling Stones , no Led Zep (Just to name 2 , probably all the British guitarist of the 60s also) ,and without just those 2 banRAB the whole face of music would be very very different.
