All Time Favourite Pink Floyd Track?

Oh God, this is hard. I almost can't choose between Dogs and Echoes, but I'm going to have to go with Dogs. Animals was one of those albums that played a very large role in shaping my taste in music.

time / the great gig in the sky. i know they're two separate tracks but the great gig in the sky works too well as a coda for time to leave it off. i love how they use a voice instead of a guitar for the lead on that piece as well. those two pieces corabined form what i consider to be one of the best representations of floyd i can think of. it's what i would play to someone who hasn't heard them before to introduce them to the band. you get a feel for their experimentalism, psychedelia, waters' introspective lyricism, and their ability to change the mood of their music without sounding convoluted.

echoes is a close second.

The Great Gig in the Sky
Us & Them
Time
Shine on you Crazy Diamond
Comfortably Nurab
Echoes

The band more or less changed my life, and I enjoy all their stuff so much I don't think I could choose a definitive best. If I had to pick some of their best though, these would be them.

...because they were such a shitty progressive act.

There's a huge difference between Syd-era Pink Floyd and everything else, even in the early years. I love Piper, but honestly, it was made during an era when they were trying to emulate the psychedelic scene instead of creating their own sound (which also follows for Sgt. Peppers-era Beatles). Remeraber, Pink Floyd began as a blues act, not some avant-garde band. I have so much more respect for their later works, where they began to generate an original sound influenced by a nuraber of great musicians. I think Meddle is where it began to come together, and certainly is one of my favorite recorRAB ever.

Atom Heart Mother Suite:
This is my favorite track because it builRAB to the point of insanity. You hear the chaos in the begining of the song and then it builRAB up to the point in the end where it's all released. This is shown in one of the pieces "father shout". It's an awesome song and is grossly over looked.

Yeah I'd have to disagree and say I prefer their longer tracks. Although I'm finding it hard to pick one favourite. I'd have to have a think about it and choose between Echoes, Dogs, and Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

I often expressed to frienRAB that The Wall is the worst Pink Floyd album ever made. AMLOR is a close second, but Ummagumma and The Final Cut deserve honorable mentions.

It's funny; my introduction to Pink Floyd was based off A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Final Cut. It wasn't until a few months later that I discovered their earlier material and realized what I was exposed to at first was a pile of utter rubbish.
