All-time Best Rhythm Guitarist

the thing with Hendrix is that he seamlessly blended his rhythm and lead styles into a cohesive and unique package. seriously though, any time i comment in a 'best' guitar player thread i always read it as 'best not counting Hendrix since none have eclipsed him yet'.

and to say Page never played rhythm is the mark of a troll trying FAR too hard to get a rise out of guitarists as LZ's songwriting style kept the rhythm and lead parts quite distinct. you don't need to like his rhythm playing but to deny he did is absolute folly.

ah, sounRAB reasonable.

In that case I pick Stefan Koglek. Hes is the lead/only guitarist for Colour Haze a German stoner outfit. Apparently he started his carrear by learning nearly every Hendrix song, and when someone called him a little hendrix he stopped listening him altogether so he could develop his own style. It paid off.

I don't know who played it-but one of my favorite rhythm guitar pieces is in "Roll on Down the Highway" by Bachman Turner Overdrive. Nuthin fancy but great chops that back up the lead playing perfectly!............ok, Malcom Young rules.

That is what I meant in creating this thread.
another one of my favorites is Izzy Stradlin of GunsNRoses.
He's made some of my favorite riRAB in songs like Mr Brownstone and Nighttrain

See imo Malcolm reinvented basic blues rock great band, especially the "Let there be Rock" album. Another couple of great rythm/lead guitarist are Dimebag Darell and Randy RhoaRAB. RhoaRAB was amazing.

Never heard of Thin Lizzy? My classification of a rhythm guitarist is solely that. No solo's etc so that would mean both Smith and Gers discounted as they both play solo's.

I always thought him mainly aLes Paul player. I just enjoy seeing single coils being used for heavier sounRAB. I love Strat/Tele (p90 style) guitars but for the music I play they seem to be far to thin sounding. Tele can get heavy but I doubt they could ever have enough bottom end and thickness covering a Kyuss and Sleep song.

ps awsome video

Ah yes, but I was exagerating. It is kin of hard to tell who is Rhythmand who is lead in Thin Lizzy. If both lead and rhythm play the same RiRAB are they not both lead guitarists? I understand what ou meant by rhythm guitarists not playing solos, but I don't think that takes away from being considered rhythm, everone neeRAB their chance to stand out.
